GATÓ

The Gató is a traditional cake made since ancient times. It is a traditional dessert, circular and served with ice cream. It has an intense almond flavor, its main ingredient.

Its name derives from the French gâteau (cake) and originates at the french food of the eighteenth century, although the pastries made with almonds were consumed previously.

Explains Miquel Ferrà i Martorell in the book "The kitchen of the French Revolution and the Balearic Islands", this cake has remained as Balearic heritage, born of a symbiosis between French cuisine (which brought the art of cooking) and Mallorca (which provided the raw material thanks to large expanses of almond).
